Colm Joseph Gardens has been commissioned to design a 6 acre garden in the beautiful landscape of the Cambridgeshire – Huntingdonshire border. Our landscape design will complement new modern architecture designed by CaSA Architects, to create a wonderful family home.
The site features an existing 2.5 acre lake and riverside frontage to the River Great Ouse. Naturally, water is a central element to our landscape design response. The modernity of the architecture is also reflected in the hardscape of the garden, where a minimalist palette of materials is used to create contemporary outdoor living spaces.
The wildlife-friendly, site-sensitive planting takes inspiration from the historic meadows of the surrounding countryside. This overall design embraces the inherent character and heritage of the site to create a modern East Anglian landscape.
Water is a central element to the design. A deck extends out over the lake to integrate the lake with the house and garden. A large outdoor swimming pool pushes out from the house and into the landscape, with infinity edges blurring the boundary between pool and lake. An ornamental water feature within the main terrace brings water to the edge of the house itself.
The naturalistic planting takes inspiration from the historic meadows of the surrounding countryside, creating modern interpretations of meadow. Structural planting offers screening, year-round interest and seasonality in keeping with the place.
