New design for a Cambridge courtyard garden
The design studio is keeping busy, despite the current coronavirus lockdown. Among other new projects underway is this design for a new courtyard garden in central Cambridge. Surrounded by award-winning modern architecture, this design creates a naturalistic and contemporary outdoor living space for family and friends to spend time together.
The view from inside the house is carefully considered and composed, making the most of indoor and outdoor living spaces all year-round. This visual composition is achieved while also delivering the functional requirements of open, flexible space within this small, family garden.
Our design for this rural garden was light touch, with the introduction of generous planting, multi-stem trees (Amelanchier lamarckii), alongside a new dining terrace and paths in simple clay pavers.
Careful selection of perennials and ornamental grasses that offer winter seedheads and foliage, in a variety of forms and textures, really helps to extend seasonal interest in the garden.
